Organized Retail Crime Investigator’s Conference set fo Sept. 16

"The Winston-Salem Police Department is pleased and excited to announce the inaugural North Carolina Organized Retail Crime Investigator’s Conference. The conference will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Village Inn Events Center located at 6205 Ramada Drive, Clemmons, NC 27012. This is an exciting opportunity to meet with law enforcement and business personnel, while discussing and receiving training on Organized Retail Crime (ORC) and its impact on North Carolina and the nation.

ORC is approximately a $38 billion dollar a year industry, which affects the entire nation, and has been linked to funding various criminal enterprises, including gang and terrorist groups. This one-day conference is designed to bring together law enforcement investigators and retail business personnel to combat the growing issue of these groups, large and small, who operate in the state. These groups impact everything from law enforcement call response and store personnel involvement, to profit loss and injury.

The event was open to all law enforcement and business personnel. The goal is education and networking between business owners, employees and law enforcement. The conference will include national speakers in the field of combating ORC.

Scheduled to appear are: Sergeant Jim Ostojic of the Polk County Florida Sheriff’s Office, David Cutherell CFI, Regional Director of Investigations for the Southeast region of Macy’s, Ben Dugan, Regional Organized Retail Crime Manager for the Southeastern United States and Puerto Rico for Walgreens, and Rory Stallard, ORC Investigator for Home Depot Corporate in Atlanta, Georgia.

We look forward to welcoming the registered attendees and speakers and hope that this event will help bridge the gap between business and law enforcement to better combat organized retail crime throughout our state and the country."
