Greensboro College Presents Musicians' Honors Convocation Dec. 3

"GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro College Department of Music presents the Musicians' Honors Convocation at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Gail Grower Huggins Performance Center in Odell Building on campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

The convocation features performances by music students in the college's George Center for Honors Studies. Instrumental and vocal performances will include sacred and secular, classic and modern works.

The college Department of Music focuses primarily on developing musical skills, musical understanding, performance, teaching skills and music appreciation. The department strongly supports the liberal arts curriculum necessary for students to function as educated, responsible citizens as well as to communicate effectively as musicians and teachers.

At Greensboro College, students may pursue the Bachelor of Arts in Music, the Bachelor of Science in Music, the Bachelor of Music Education, or a Certificate of Church Music. Music majors also may concentrate in either contemporary improvisation or digital music production.

For more information on the department, contact chair Jane McKinney, professor of music, at 336-272-7102, ext. 281, or mckinneyj@greensboro.edu.

The college's Honors program, housed in the George Center for Honors studies, includes four years of special curricular and extracurricular opportunities and an emphasis on intellectual and personal development.

Coursework is exclusive to the Honors Program and team-taught by two professors in the classroom. Courses are interdisciplinary in nature, meaning participants study the human condition in all its dimensions: traditional studies in classical literature and philosophy will incorporate views of the social sciences and the arts.

The Honors curriculum is dedicated to intellectual development through pursuit of academic excellence in the dual traditions of the liberal arts and the Judeo-Christian faith. For more information on the program, contact Neill Clegg, program director and associate professor of music, at 336-272-7102, ext. 5288, or cleggn@greensboro.edu.

Greensboro College provides a liberal-arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.

Founded in 1838 and located near downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master's degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features a 17-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities."
