"The City of Greensboro’s Participatory Budgeting Project is hosting a series of neighborhood assemblies beginning on Monday, November 2 at the McNairy Branch Library, 4860 Lake Jeanette Rd., from 6:30-8:30 pm. The neighborhood assemblies are for residents to discuss specific needs in their council districts, as well share ideas about possible ways to invest the $100,000 being allocated to each district. The assemblies will include formal presentations, information about the City and the participatory budgeting process.
Greensboro is the first City in the South to launch participatory budgeting, a democratic process in which community members from all five districts decide how to spend $500,000; $100,000 per district. This process encourages residents to identify community needs and draft proposals for how to spend part of the public budget.
A complete list of neighborhood assemblies in each district can be found at www.greensboro-nc.gov/pb. Exact dates and times are subject to change and are expected to run into early December. Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the process as well as provide feedback on possible ways to invest in their district.
