Mac’s takes 2nd place as Reserve Grand Champion at barbecue fest

"Mac’s Speed Shop has announced that its hard-charging pitmasters won a 2nd Place trophy as Reserve Grand Champion at the When Pigs Fly –All American BBQ Festival on Sat., Nov. 14.
Mac's Speed Shop recently opened a new location in Greensboro at 1218 Battleground Ave.
 “Fayetteville’s Festival Park made this competition a particular favorite for us,” said Mac’s Head Chef Kevin Kuruc. “We loved the enthusiasm of the hometown crowd and we are thankful for organizations like the Carolina Barbecue League for allowing us to compete and show why Mac’s Speed Shop is a top destination for great barbecue.”
Held in Fayetteville’s 14-acre Festival Park, When Pigs Fly BBQ Festival combines tasty barbecue, live entertainment, and fun for everyone. The event was a fundraiser for Communities in Schools Cumberland County, dedicated to surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Mac’s Speed Shop continues to make its mark in barbecue, winning over 25 awards in local, regional, national and global competitions. These prestigious wins include: 5th place in the Memphis In May Barbecue Cooking Contest and 1st place World Champion Barbecue Sauce in the Memphis in May Barbecue Cooking Contest, Grand Champions of Grill’n & Chill’n BBQ Cook- Off, 1st place pork shoulder and 1st place whole hog at the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ festival, and 1st place barbecue chicken at the When Pigs Fly-All American BBQ Festival.

Unlike many other competitive teams, Mac’s Speed Shop maintains the quality of competition cooking while serving food every week at its restaurants, with a goal of appealing to the many different barbecue tastes their customers bring. In addition to its location in Fayetteville, Mac’s has three Charlotte restaurants, in South End, Steele Creek and Lake Norman, plus locations in Greenville, S.C. and Greensboro, N.C."
