The team will compete in the national tournament in May
"Greensboro, N.C. – After answering questions about everything from singer-songwriters, to the chemical makeup of methane, to the Romanov dynasty, the Early College at Guilford’s Quiz Bowl team was named state champions.
The 2016 Quiz Bowl State Finals were held over the weekend. The Early College at Guilford defeated Providence 360 to 250 for the state title and will go onto the national tournament in May. High Point Central High placed 9th in the tournament.
In the middle school tournament, Northwest Middle placed sixth and Brown Summit Middle came in eighth place.
Quiz Bowl tests students’ knowledge on history, literature, science, math, fine arts, current events, sports and pop culture.
“The amount of information these students remember and how quickly they can recall it is nothing short of amazing,” says Paul Smith, Early College at Guilford team coach. “I’m so proud of these students and the work they’ve put in, and I can’t wait to see what they do at nationals.”
This will be the school’s seventh year competing in the national tournament, where the best teams across the U.S. and Canada compete.
