Triad Breweries Announce Release of Collaboration Brew

"Greensboro, NC • Paying homage to the Moravians who were among the first settlers of the area, a group of Triad breweries have worked together to create a very special brew.   This Russian Imperial Stout was brewed with Moravian Cookie spices (primarily molasses and ginger). Then the batch was aged for eight months - half in red wine barrels, and half in bourbon barrels. The richness and complexity reflect the amazing diversity and growth of the brewing community in the Triad.

Collaborating breweries were Four Saints Brewing Co, Gibb’s Hundred Brewing Co, Haw River Farmhouse Ales, Hoots Beer Co, Liberty Brewery & Grill, Mystery Brewing Co, Preyer Brewing Co, and Skull Camp Brewing. Half of these breweries are a year old or less, highlighting the recent burst of energy and creativity in the Triad brewing scene. They were joined by breweries-in-planning XII Tribes Brewing and Wise Man Brewing.

Black Lamb will be released on November 20. In the Triad, it will only be available in the breweries’ taprooms. For more information on release parties, go to Eventbrite.com and search “Black Lamb”. Outside of the Triad, a Triad Tap Takeover Tour is being planned to introduce craft beer fans in Charlotte, the Triangle, and Asheville to Triad beer. The Charlotte event will be at Craft Tasting Room on November 24, the Triangle event will be at Raleigh Beer Garden on December 3, and the Asheville event will be at the Thirsty Monk in January (date TBD)."

Gibb's Hundred Brewing Co. Wins Medal at the Great American Beer Festival

GABF Gold medal is among the most coveted in the brewing world

GREENSBORO - Gibb's Hundred Brewing claimed a gold medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 92 beer categories were announced September 26 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.

Gibb's Hundred Brewing was recognized in the Extra Special Bitter beer-style category for The Guilty Party, a deep amber, malty brew with notes of caramel, nuttiness and biscuit. Gibb's Hundred Brewing was founded a year ago in Greensboro, NC.  The brewery will be celebrating its anniversary on October 17th with a street festival featuring live music, food trucks, eleven Gibb's beers on tap, and a new release of a special Barleywine.

"We put our heart and soul into every beer -- not just the sexy IPAs and Belgian Tripels," said Mark Gibb, co-founder with Sasha Gibb. "This win really showcases an underrated beer style, and validates the tremendous talent and hard work of our brewers John Priest and William Brown."

The 2015 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 242 expert judges from the record number of 6,647 entries received from 1,552 U.S. breweries.

The Celebrating the Day and the Saint: St. Patrick's Day Party

"Greensboro, NC – It would be hard to imagine worse weather than what Greensboro experienced last year on St. Patrick' Day. A high temperature of 30 degrees coupled with all day sleet and freezing rain made for a very cold inaugural St. Paddy's Party. Despite all, the party went on, with over 200 hearty souls showing up for the food and festivities. The turnout convinced promoter Allen McDavid to do it again.

This year's Greater Greensboro St. Paddy's Party StPatricksGreensboro.com is being held inside a large tent in a unique location behind Terra Blue, a store located at 518 South Elm Street. The entrance to the event will be via an alley off of South Elm. The party begins at 3 PM on Tuesday, March 17 and goes on until Midnight. Irish band Banna will headline the music line-up and there will be several Irish food dishes for sell along with local beer from Gibb's Hundred. Admission is $7 for adults and children are free.

Unlike the local bars, McDavid refuses to have his celebration on any day but March 17th. Says McDavid, “My goal is to celebrate the Day and the Saint, not to maximize beer sales,” says McDavid who is especially proud that the Na Cara Division 1 Guilford County Ancient Order of Hibernians are going to be on hand with an educational booth. There will also be a genealogy booth on site as well. McDavid invites all who want to celebrate Ireland and the Irish to come out and toast the Saint's Day and help it become a destination event for years to come.
