"The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was
good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in
the room.
It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favorite
wedding singer. He’s the life of the party,
until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every
wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter
Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be
married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance
of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
TA newcomer Lane Fields stars as Robbie Hart. New to the Piedmont, he is not new to the
role. Says Fields, “When I moved to
Winston-Salem last year, I knew I had to find a new theater home, and there was
no doubt I wanted it be Theater Alliance.
This first performance in NC is going to ‘ROCK!’ with a wonderful cast
of dedicated performers. After 25 years
working in professional theater, reprising the role of Robbie is a great chance
to get introduced to Winston Salem audiences.”
Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer's sparkling score does for the '80s what Hairspray did for the '60s. From celebrating the single life to
relationships of many decades, The
Wedding Singer is the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day -- or any other
chilly February night. Just say yes to
the most romantic musical in 20 years and celebrate love with Theatre Alliance.
“A
truly clever, and often hilarious score…a real winner.” – New York Theatre
Guide
“Another
instant crowd-pleaser is born.” - Variety
The Theatre Alliance production is directed by Jamie Lawson and
musically directed by Jackson Cooper. The
cast features Lane Fields as Robbie Hart, Stephen Melaga as Sonny, Seph
Schonekas as George, Ann Davis-Rowe as Julia Sullivan, Linda Shillito as Holly,
John C. Wilson as Glen Guglia, Becki West as Rosie, and Kaylee Gonzalez as
Linda.
