In the fall of 2014, Touring Theatre of North Carolina requested submission of short stories from local writers as a way of supporting the Triad Local First movement. From fifty submissions, three were selected: by Alice Hodkins, Anne Barnhill and Kevin Varner
In this spring mix, entitled Local Produce, Touring Theatre’s audiences will discover a delicious combination as local actors and local directors blend local stories into a delightfully seasoned dish. Actors Victoria Singleton, Laurine Concutelli and Kevin Varner perform characters whose lives are changed when they encounter, among other things, the children’s book Good Night Moon, tangerines with strawberries, and a boom box.
The Touring Theatre of North Carolina is the longest running professional theatre in the Triad. Its innovative spirit allows the company to celebrate, commemorate and raise concerns of its community through carefully selected materials that focus on the ongoing human search for dignity across lines of ethnicity, gender, economic status, religion and age. All productions are created with the highest professional standards and are designed to promote conversations about the community.
