Greensboro Primary '07: Robbie Perkins

The following is City Council At-Large candidate Robbie Perkins's complete response to our survey. Click here for the list of questions.

Robbie Perkins
• Date of birth: Oct. 15, 1955
• Professional background: commercial realtor, NAI Piedmont Triad
• Previous political experience: Greensboro City Council, District 3, 1993-2005
• Highest level of education: Master of business administration, Duke University, 1979

1. The city is fulfilling all of its obligations as required by the federal and state governments with regard to air pollution. I believe this is adequate. (27)
2. We need to prioritize the urban loop. Secondly, we need to provide adequate resources to connect our local transportation system to the urban loop. Bus service remains less than optimal, but is constrained by funding. Light rail is a long-term option that is being explored by PART. (48)
3. Continue the Heart of the Triad project. Regional cooperation is the best way for all of our local jurisdictions to prosper. (22)
4. Yes. Wage rate, capital investment and competitive environment are three areas that I would use to make a decision on an incentive request. (24)
5. Have a “can do” attitude toward business instead of creating roadblocks. (12)
6. No. We need to let the federal government set the minimum wage. (13)
7. All of the cities in the Triad will expand on their fringes. The real question is whether the fringe development will be well planned or whether it will be a continuation of the urban sprawl model. I believe we should continue to encourage development and reuse in the urban core. (51)
8. I am a strong supporter of regionalism and the Heart of the Triad project. Shared infrastructure is the only way smaller urban areas can compete in a global economy. (30)
9. Being open with our citizens is the most important thing the city can do in this situation. We must have a city that demands fair and equal treatment of all of its employees and citizens. Anything short of that is unacceptable. (42)
10. No. The Human Relations Department is an adequate way for citizens to submit complaints to the city about the police department.

Pres. George Washington envisioned an event such as Heart of the Triad when he said, "Cunning, ambitious and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the Power of the People to usurp for themselves the reins of Government, destroying afterwards the very engines which lifted them to unjust dominion".
HOT is a corporate scam to confiscate private property. Corporatism refers to a political system in which power is given to professional groups that promote the interests of private corporations over the interests of the public.

Mr. Perkins is currently functioning without ethical guidelines to prevent his conflicts of interests from putting a halt to his political power games. Isn't it time for a change Greensboro?
