The Cannes venture is shaping up pretty well. We've got our plane tickets and put a downpayment on a small 2BR villa right in the city, "near" the beach. We should scrape the rest of the money together during our fundraiser April 30 on the Greene Street rooftop. All are welcome, and we've got free beer and food while it lasts.
My passport got here today. It's the first one I've ever owned, and this will be the first time I've ever left American soil. Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean don't count.
The whole thing is really incredible, and I'm getting serious warm fuzzies from all the support -- people I worked in the restaurants with, old colleagues from other papers, friends of my wife, relatives, people I know around town and anonymous fans. And I'm hoping to see everybody at the fundraiser on Wednesday, April 30 at 5 p.m.
We'll have some bands, screen the movie, have a meet and greet with the cast and crew, offer up a few choice silent auction items and have a few laughs.
