Filing closed for High Point City Council at noon today.
Last-day filings include incumbent Mary Lou Blakeney for at large and Bernita Sims for Ward 1. Mayor Becky Smothers now has two opponents, as do Ward 2 incumbent Foster Douglas and Ward 5 incumbent Christopher M. Whitley. Ward 3 incumbent Michael D. Pugh has an opponent. Two people are now vying for the Ward 4 seat being vacated by Bill Bencini.
