Will four High Point City council races be uncontested?

YES! Weekly is tracking election filing for High Point City Council at Triad Elections '10.

So far, four races remain uncontested — wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 — with three days to go before the close of the filing period. That Ward 3 has only one candidate so far is no surprise: The contender is incumbent Michael Pugh.

The lackluster interest in the other three races is cause for some head-scratching. Ward 4 is an open seat, with its current occupant Bill Bencini moving on to the Guilford County Commission. Ward 1 is currently occupied by Bernita Sims, a one-time mayor pro tem, while Ward 2 is represented by one-termer Foster Douglas. Neither Sims nor Douglas have filed for reelection at this time, and I have not been able to reach them by phone.

Crowd-sourcing welcome.
