More from Codeseven's Jon Tuttle

YW!: Were you guys at all irritated when The Ataris got a hit with their cover of "Boys of Summer?"

Jon Tuttle: We played "Boys Of Summer" because it was a lot of fun and the crowd always loved it. It did really well on the college music charts and once we started playing outside of our hometown or even region we discovered that as a fact. The thing that actually irritated us the most was that Codeseven was becoming known as the band that does the Henley cover. Everywhere we went people would just yell out the song. We put a ban on playing it for years because of that. In hindsight we may have overreacted a little but really wanted to stand out for our own songwriting skills. To see the Ataris come around years later and probably make a ton of money was a little irritating I guess but we would never try and gain popularity by doing a cover as a single. Have a little respect for yourselves.

I saw a great Codeseven show at Ace's Basement in Greensboro in 2005, just when I was getting my feet wet as a local music writer.
