More than 5,800 documents released by UNC-TV last week as part of a public records request by YES! Weekly reveal that Eszter Vajda, the station's former senior legislative correspondent, was pleased by a highly controversial decision by NC Senator Fletcher Hartsell (R-Cabarrus) and Sen. Marc Basnight to issue a subpoena for all of Vajda’s work tapes gathered during her investigation into Alcoa's efforts to re-license a 38-mile stretch of the Yadkin River for another 50 years. Hartsell and Basnight issued the subpoena on July 1 on behalf of the NC Senate Judiciary II Committee.
On Aug. 17, Vajda was fired by UNC-TV. For the complete story, pick up the Aug. 25 edition of YES! Weekly at newsstands.
