Latin King member flees to New Jersey

The Greensboro Police Department has issued a wanted alert for Wesley A. Williams, AKA King Bam, a member of the North Carolina Latin Kings organization.

Williams, 18, is wanted for failing to appear in court for carrying concealed firearms, a 12-gauge shotgun and SKS assault rifle. Williams is believed to have fled to New Jersey and to be staying with his mother, Cara Williams.

Latin Kings leader Jorge Cornell told YES! Weekly that he signed a $500 bond for Williams for which he is liable. Cornell said he believes that Williams is innocent of the charge because another member of the vehicle in which the weapons were found claimed ownership. Cornell said he hopes Williams will be caught so that he will have his day in court.

Cornell said he believes Williams fled because of harassment by the department’s gang enforcement unit, along with personal reasons.

“Everything came down to him being harassed by the police, having a kid at a very young age, finding out that the mother gave the kid away for adoption. He cried himself to sleep. Me and my girlfriend had to talk him down; he wanted to kill himself.”

Cornell added that he has expelled Williams from the Latin Kings.

“As far as him being a member of this nation, that right there is cause for termination,” he said. “We don’t run from our problems. We face them head on.”

In addition to the pending charge carrying a concealed firearm, Williams has two misdemeanor convictions for resisting an officer and carrying a concealed weapon on appeal to superior court.

CrimeStoppers is offering up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of Williams.

Cornell laughed when he was informed that the alert cautions that “anyone coming in contact with Williams should consider him armed and dangerous.”

“No, man,” he said. “No way.”
