Free health screenings for women offered

Women are offered free health screenings at Hayes Taylor Memorial YMCA on East Market Street on May 9 from noon until 5 p.m. Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency will provide screenings for sickle cell disease, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, glaucoma, depression, posture, spinal screenings, breast exams, foot health and HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases as part of National Women’s Check-Up Day.
North Carolina has some of the highest rates of death due to stroke and diabetes-related causes in the nation, according to a press release by Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency, and rates for black people are particularly high.
