Bob Etheridge, a former congressman, has announced plans to file tomorrow as a candidate for governor of North Carolina.
A Democrat, Etheridge represented North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District until he was defeated by Republican Renee Ellmers in 2010.
Etheridge joins Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton, NC Rep. Bill Faison, Gary Dunn of Matthews and Gardenia Henley of Walkertown in the Democratic primary to replace outgoing Gov. Bev Perdue.
The Republican primary ticket includes former Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory, the presumptive frontrunner, along with Charles Kenneth Moss of Randleman, Paul Wright of Dudley and Jim Mahan of Denver.
Oxford resident Barbara Howe has filed as a Libertarian.
