Girls Fight Back: Personal safety and self defense seminar this weekend

Here's some information about a self defense class this Sunday in Winston-Salem for women and girls. My sister did similar work with Girls' LEAP in Boston but I don't know of any longer term programs or local organizations doing this work on a regular basis in the Triad. (If you do, please leave the information in a comment).

On Sunday, September 30th from 3:30pm to 5pm, Heather Maggs of Girls Fight Back will present a live program open to the public at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church (2575 Parkway Drive, Winston-Salem, NC). Registration is $15 at the door or $12 before September 28th. To register, simply email your interest to hmaggs@girlsfightback.com. Registration may be paid via cash, check, or paypal.

Girls Fight Back is a live, 90-minute presentation given in schools and colleges with a goal of teaching young women the ba
sics of personal safety and self-defense. Delivered in a fun and “edu-taining” format that blends straight talk, comedy and good ol’ fashioned ass kicking – the GFB presentation has been seen by over ONE MILLION women since 2001. The speakers who present the program for GFB (currently Bree, Heather, Megan) individually travel the nation every Fall and Spring semester, in an effort to reach as many young women as possible with the message that women are worth fighting for! And now, that same award winning program (Campus Activities Magazine’s 2012 Best Speakers) will be offered here in Winston-Salem!

The program covers all the basics of how to trust your intuition, be a bad victim (or a hard target), and ultimately, how to open up a can of whoop ass if you ever need to. Participants will leave feeling safer, more empowered and fully capable of being their own best protector. There will be laughs, cool moves that will make you feel like a ninja, and door prizes!

The Girls Fight Back Program is appropriate for girls, ages 13 years old and up, and women of all ages.

Thanks for posting this, Eric. I'm going to be offering more advance workshops in the coming months. Here's info on a FAST Defense Women's Basics I'll be offering in November! http://www.facebook.com/heather.maggs?ref=tn_tnmn#!/events/441318902577165/
