Former NC House candidate accused of threatening to shoot school employeees

Cristina Vazquez
Cristina Vazquez, a 54-year-old former Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools employee and two-time candidate for NC House, is in the Forsyth County Detention Center on a charges of communicating threats.

Winston-Salem police allege that Vazquez threatened to shoot administrative personnel during a phone call to the administrative office located at 345 Corporate Square Drive. The office was placed on lockdown to await police arrival as a precaution.

"These people have been trying to discredit me," Vazquez told YES! Weekly, answering her cell phone to confirm that she was in jail. "I have documents to prove they lied."

Vazquez declined to comment on the allegation, noting that school administration had lodged the complaint against her and would be attempting to prove the charges against her.

Vazquez has made two unsuccessful bids for the NC House, securing a place on the general election ballot as a Democrat against powerful and entrenched Republicans. She lost to Rep. Dale Folwell in District 74 in 2010, and then to Rep. Julia Howard in District 79 in 2012
