YES! Weekly wins four NC Press awards

YES! Weekly took home four awards in the 2012 North Carolina Press Association awards last night. News editor Jordan Green and music writer Ryan Snyder attended on behalf of the paper, and both came back with a prize.

Editor Brian Clarey received second place for his profile feature (and cover story) "Broach: the subject." The Chapel Hill News won first place in the category. Green, who is also our Winston-Salem/Forsyth County reporter, placed third in the serious columns category (as opposed to lighter columns). The category was judged on several submissions, including "Green shoots" and "Where the voters aren't." We came in behind the Rhino Times' Scott Yost (second place) and The Pilot in Southern Pines. Snyder received third place for criticism, with two writers for Indy Week in Durham coming in first and second.

YES! Weekly also came in third for general excellence for websites, placing behind Indy Week (second place) and the Waynesville Smoky Mountain News. Congrats to all the winners, and kudos to fellow alt weekly Indy Week for topping us in a few categories and for numerous other victories last night.
