Mayor Joines cited for unsafe movement in car accident

Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines was involved in a car accident on 2nd Street near Spring Street yesterday at about 4 p.m., police report.

Police said Joines' car drifted into the adjoining lane and collided with the right side of another car driven by Aaron M. Whiteford, 28, of Winston-Salem. Joines and Whiteford suffered no injuries, and total damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,500.

Joines was cited for unsafe movement, according to police, but speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
