Workshops scheduled to assist property owners who want to appeal property valuations

Community leaders in Winston-Salem are gearing up again to challenge widespread devaluations in properties as the Forsyth County Board of Equalization and Review enters the final stretch of considering blanket changes through a statutory deadline of June 28.

The Ministers Conference of Winston-Salem and Vicinity's Social Justice Committee will be hosting three drop-in sessions at public libraries to assist homeowners who wish to file formal appeals with the board.

The sessions are scheduled for Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, June 10 from noon to 9 p.m. at the following locations in Winston-Salem:

• Carver School Road Branch Library, 4915 Lansing Drive, 336.703.2910;
• Malloy/Jordan East Winston Library, 1110 E. 7th St., 336.703-2950; and
• Central Public Library, 660 W. 5th St., 336.703.2950

The effort is being coordinated by Carolyn Highsmith, president of the Konnoak Hills Community Association, and the Rev. Willard Bass, president of the Ministers Conference.

The community leaders plan to announce the mobilization on Tuesday at a 1:30 p.m. press conference at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
