FAMILY SERVICES CELEBRATES The 5th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Take a step towards ending violence against women

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (September 28, 2013) Join Family Services for our fifth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event this Saturday, September 28 at 11:30 a.m. on Trade Street in downtown Winston-Salem. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an international event to raise awareness about rape, sexual assault and gender violence, as well as highlight the role that men play in creating a solution. Men are asked to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but that’s the point. This event provides an opportunity to get the community talking about something that's really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence. There is a saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at The Garage (110 W. 7th Street). The WALK begins at 11:30 a.m. General Registration is $25 dollars and High School and College students are $15. The goal is to reach $30,000. Recommended parking will be the public lot on 6th and Cherry or Ziggy's (170 W. 9th St) parking lot on Martin Luther King Blvd. Shuttles will be available from Corpening Plaza (237 West First Street) to transport participants back to those two lots.
