OFFICER J.W. WAY |
Officer J.W. Way is accused of exposing himself to an adult female at her place of employment on Aug. 27.
An allegation of misconduct was reported to the Greensboro Police Department on Sept. 10. Officers from the Professional Standards Division launched an investigation the following day and gathered sufficient information for Way to be suspended from duties with pay on Sept. 12 while concurrent criminal and administrative investigations were on-going.
“We are deeply disturbed by this incident,” stated Interim Chief of Police Anita Holder. “The men and women in GPD who do the right thing day in and day out feel betrayed by any officer’s decision that casts us in an unprofessional light.”
The arrest follows an investigation by the Greensboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
In addition to the criminal misdemeanor charge, Way faces a disciplinary hearing to adjudicate violations of several departmental directives in connection with the offense.
Way joined GPD on Feb. 16, 2005. He holds the rank of Police Officer III and is assigned to the Southern Patrol Division.
The name of the victim will not be released."
