GTCC COSMETOLOGY STUDENT EARNS THIRD PLACE IN STATE COMPETITION

"Guilford Technical Community College’s cosmetology students are in the limelight once again.

Megan Gardinier, a GTCC cosmetology student from High Point, recently earned third place in the Fantasy Hair and Makeup category during the North Carolina State Fair Cosmetology Contest on Oct. 26.

Gardinier chose the theme, "The Phoenix," for her costume because of what it means to her personally. Gardinier explains: “In mythology the phoenix symbolizes death and rebirth. When I decided to go back to school (at GTCC), I considered it a rebirth of my life path, especially being older. Like a phoenix, I am rising out of the ashes of my old life and starting a new one."

GTCC cosmetology student Mersadye Fuller of Kernersville served as Gardinier’s model for the competition.

SkillsUSA North Carolina (http://www.skillsusanc.org) sponsored the North Carolina State Fair Cosmetology Contest on Oct. 26. GTCC Cosmetology Department Chair Morris “Boz” Boswell served as the contest’s chair.

Guilford Technical Community College is the third largest of 58 institutions in the NC Community College System. GTCC serves more than 40,000 students annually from five campuses and a Small Business Center. Learn more at www.gtcc.edu."
