Arrest Made in Hit and Run of Retired Greensboro Police Sergeant

"GREENSBORO, NC (Dec. 31, 2014) – A Crime Stoppers tip along with investigation by the Greensboro Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit has led to the arrest of Joshua Samuel Israel, 29, in a hit and run collision that seriously wounded a pedestrian on Dec. 27.


            James Brower Clark, 73, was attempting to cross Spring Garden Street in between McManus Street and Peebles Drive at approximately 8:33 pm that Saturday when he was struck by a passenger sedan driving eastbound. The operator, later identified as Israel, fled the scene.

Additional information about the vehicle, describing it as a dark-colored 2000-2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with a missing right passenger mirror and a broken front right parking light, was provided to the public on Dec. 30. This description led to a Crime Stoppers tip that helped officers with the case.
          Clark, a retired Greensboro Police Department sergeant, was transported to Moses Cone Hospital in serious condition. He remains hospitalized, and his condition has been upgraded to stable.
Israel, of 2731 Spring Garden St., is charged with Felony Hit and Run. He currently confined in the Guilford County Jail on a $2,500 secured bond."
