MATT WELLS
"Greensboro, N.C. – As an art teacher at Montlieu Academy of Technology, Matt Wells has an extra item in his art supply box – the iPad. Montlieu’s one-to-one technology initiative means that students can create electronically as well as by traditional means, something that drew Wells to the school when he started there in 2007.

Yesterday, Wells was named the GCS Employee of the Month for February 2015, thanks to his skill as a teacher and the way he inspires both students and staff. Wells says he found his passion for art while in school, and he enjoys seeing his students do the same. But what makes him a great teacher, says Principal Ged O’Donnell, is how he encourages children to always do their best, no matter what.

“Mr. Wells uses creative and innovative ways in teaching and engaging students,” says O’Donnell in his nomination. “Going above and beyond the call of duty, he makes it a top priority to teach our students to be ‘Students of Excellence.’”

As Employee of the Month, Wells received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has given nearly $6,000 to outstanding GCS employees since 2005. During the month of February, his photo will hang at the district’s central offices, at Montlieu Academy of Technology and at the Sam’s Club on Wendover Avenue.
