Twin City Stage Announces its 2015 “Best. Summer. Ever.” Drama Camps

"Twin City Stage will be full of drama – the good kind – this summer, offering a wide array of acting camps for children ages 4-18.  Aside from performing in a show, kids and teens will play theatre games, learn improvisational skills and be introduced to all that goes into bringing a play or musical to the stage, including costumes, sets, props, and other technical aspects.

Main stage summer camps will include James and the Giant Peach and musicals Cyrano de Burger Shack and Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr.  These are full-day camps that range from 2-3 weeks in length and culminate in three performances on the main stage.

In addition, Twin City Stage will also offer a variety of half and full-day, one week camps, which will finish up with a performance in the theatre’s rehearsal hall.  The half-day camps, for younger children, will include classics such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Cinderella, A Tangle of Tales, and a perennial favorite, Camp Shakespeare.  Full-day camps will be The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan.
Cyrano de Burger Shack, the largest camp production of the summer, will be the high school, audition-only camp.  Based on Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, this rollicking musical features hit contemporary pop songs such as “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, “My Prerogative”, “We Got the Beat”, and “All Star”.  The show will offer roles for up to 20 boys and 20 girls and is open to actors aged 13-18 only.  Those interested in auditioning for this camp are asked to register online (www.childrenstheatrews.org) after which they will be contacted with an audition date and time.  Please note: teens will be auditioning for a spot in the camp, not a particular role.  Call backs and casting will happen on the first day of camp.  Camp dates for Cyrano de Burger Shack will be July 6-26, with three performances July 24-26.  Cheri Van Loon will direct the production.

Further details about the camps, including dates, times and age specifics, are available online at www.childrenstheatrews.org.  Parents can register online or by calling Twin City Stage at (336) 748-0857 x201.  Camps range from $185-575, and scholarship opportunities are available.

Founded in 1935 as The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem, Twin City Stage merged with The Children’s Theatre of Winston-Salem in 2011.  The company provides exciting and innovative live theatre for people of all ages and offers acting classes and summer camps for children and teens."
