Program provided every teacher with a
library of 40 or more books for their class
"Greensboro, N.C. – Teachers and students at Foust Elementary got a special surprise Friday morning when Southeast Middle students dropped off dozens of books in every classroom. It’s the conclusion of the Falcon Friend Care Club’s “Reading Rocks” project to make sure every classroom in the elementary school has a library.
“The generosity of Southeast Middle School will impact our classroom library tremendously and continues to support our students and their love for reading,” says Lauren Faucette, fifth-grade teacher at Foust.
“Our goal is to make a difference in our community one person at a time,” says Kelly Ingram, counselor at Southeast Middle and Care Club advisor. “Our Reading Rocks project helps to promote literacy in our schools, and we know that learning to love reading can change a child's life for the better!”
The middle school students collected more than 1,000 books over the year, allowing them to provide every teacher with 40 or more books for their classrooms. After making the donations, the middle school students met with their fifth-grade pen pals for a “Promising Pals” breakfast.
“The Care Club has helped me mature and open my eyes to the needs of people around me,” says Riley McAvoy, eighth-grader at Southeast Middle. “I plan to continue volunteering. I feel Care Club has helped me understand the needs in our community.”
This is the second year the club has partnered with Foust Elementary. Last year, they provided every student with a summer reading library."
