CHRISTY JOHNSON TO RECEIVE 2015 YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD

University of North Carolina Greensboro Alumni of Distinction Awards

"A University of North Carolina Greensboro alumna, Christy Johnson, has been selected to receive the 2015 Young Alumni Award.  Ms. Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting and Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Acting from the university.  Additionally, she was the youngest graduate to date in her field from UNCG.

The Young Alumni Award is presented to a UNCG alumni and honors those alumni who are 40 years of age and younger when nominated. It recognizes exceptional achievement and significant contribution to the recipient's profession, community, society or university. The recipient must exemplify outstanding professional and personal development either through traditional channels or innovative approaches. A maximum of one award may be given annually.
Ms. Johnson is being recognized for her innovative approach to implementing her degrees as a performer.  She is currently starring as “Judy Hartley” in the upcoming feature film, “Night of The Living Dead: Genesis”, which is expected for release around Halloween 2016.  She is also the frontwoman for the melodic hard rock band, Dreamkiller, through which she has been honored with such recognitions as Los Angeles Music Awards National Female Vocal Performer of The Year and International Music and Entertainment Awards Rock Female Vocalist of The Year.
Dreamkiller is a nationally touring melodic hard rock band that presents elements of soulful melodies, jazzy harmonies, catchy rock hooks and prides themselves on colorful lyrics that include positive themes of strength, perseverance, conquering your fears head-on, as well as pushing with no limits to accomplish goals. Music from Dreamkiller has received placement in 12 different films, many of which have been released worldwide and have won numerous awards. Along with receiving a multitude of accolades themselves, Dreamkiller has played the main stage of Rockapalooza, Megaton, Kohl Fest, performed at the Vans Warped Tour, showcased at a plethora of music conferences and tour nationally in support of their full-length concept album "Sleepless Dreams". They are currently working on their upcoming album with tracks mixed by Grammy award winning producer, Toby Wright. Dreamkiller has acquired sponsorships from Rock Rage Radio, Coldcock Whiskey, Mass Destruction Clothing, InTune Guitar Picks, Xcel Drumsticks and Curt Mangan Strings. Recently, they have become a full-time U.S. national touring band with aspirations to span their travel worldwide.

The selection of recipients is made by the Awards and Nominations Committee and approved by the Alumni Association Board of Directors. The award recipients are recognized at the annual Alumni of Distinction Dinner during the week leading up to Homecoming.  The 2015 award ceremony will be held Oct. 15 at the Cone Ballroom, Elliott University Center from 6-9:00pm.  Admission is $30 and can be purchased online: www.alumni.uncg.edu"
