Two GCS Marching Bands Among Best in the Country

Andrews High, Dudley High take top honors at
High Stepping Nationals Competition

"Greensboro, N.C. – You could say they march to the beat of a different drummer – a winning one. Andrews High and Dudley High are first- and third-place finishers for their divisions in the High Stepping Nationals Marching Band Competition, held last month in Memphis.

Andrews High was named the national champion at the Division 2 level and had the highest scoring drum line in the country. Andrews’ drum major also claimed the title of best-in-class drum major for its division. The marching band at Andrews is led by band director Jason Heath.

“They did an awesome job and won the hearts of many fans at the contest,” said Rodney Chamber of the High Stepping Nationals organization about Andrews. “The judges were amazed at how well the band performed and sounded. The students and parents were extremely well mannered and a pleasure to be around.”

Dudley High placed third in the nation in Division 3, the largest division in the competition. This was their first return to nationals since 2004 and first under the leadership of band director Christopher Hayes.

“There is so much potential in both bands, and Guilford County should be extremely proud of your students and directors,” said Chambers. “They both did an outstanding job.”"
