"GREENSBORO, NC (Jan. 7, 2016) – A thirteen-year-old male is the third person to be arrested in connection with the shooting death of two men on Bragg St. on Dec. 2.

The minor, who resides in Greensboro, was taken into custody without incident earlier today within the city limits. He faces two counts of First Degree Murder for the shooting deaths of Ernest Lemark Cuthbertson, 23, and Jeffrey Devine Hampton, 44. He was an acquaintance of Ernest Cuthbertson, but had no previous contact or encounters with Hampton.

Also arrested today was Mark Rontae Henderson, 30, of 1415 Randolph Ave. An acquaintance of Cuthbertson, he is charged with Accessory After the Fact. Henderson was taken into custody without incident this morning following a vehicle stop in the vicinity of Elm St. and Tankersley St.

Chauncey Jamal Slade, 17, of 1413 Bellevue St., was the first teen arrested in connection with the double homicide. He was served two warrants for First Degree Murder on Dec. 18 while confined in the High Point Jail for stealing property from several automobiles three days earlier. He is also charged with Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling for the Dec. 2 incident.
Elijah Naitron Valentin, 19, was the second teen arrested in connection with the double homicide. He was taken into custody without incident by officials from the Federal Bureau Investigation on Dec. 24 at a relative’s home in Cobb County, Georgia. Valentin is charged with two counts of First Degree Murder.

Valentin’s arrest was the result of an extensive joint investigation involving the FBI, local law enforcement officials from Georgia, and the Greensboro Police Department. He was held in Cobb County Jail located in Marietta, Georgia until being extradited to NC on Jan. 4. He is currently confined in the Guilford County Jail without bond.

Valentin was an acquaintance of Ernest Cuthbertson. Valentin had no previous contact or encounters with the second homicide victim, Hampton.

At approximately 11 pm the night of the shooting, Greensboro police officers were in the Ray Warren neighborhood on an unrelated call when they heard shots fired. Upon locating the crime scene near 1008 E. Bragg St., they found Cuthbertson, whose last known address is 407 E. Washington St., fatally shot. Hampton, of 1511 Avalon Dr., was also shot in the incident. He was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Detectives have learned that the shooting followed a dispute among Slade, Cuthbertson and Hampton (who are cousins), and others. The nature of the dispute, along with any motive for the shooting, remains unclear. Police have determined that Slade knew Cuthbertson before the shooting."
