Historic Bethabara Park Apple Fest is Ripe with Possibilities

"Historic Bethabara Park will host its 15th annual Apple Fest on Sept. 19 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Fried apple pies, apple cider and other apple products will be featured but the event will also offer much, much more. The crowds of around 13,000 people will also enjoy music, dancing, children's games and activities, book signings, craft vendors, colonial re-enactors and other great activities, The day will consist of several music concerts as well as dancing by Pat Adkins and the South Fork Cloggers and the Academy of Dance Arts. Also, families will enjoy the Noah's Place petting zoo and Dean Holcombe's sheepdog demonstrations.  Historical interpreters will demonstrate spinning, weaving, blacksmithing, hide tanning, peweter making, coopering, and basket making. Apples from local orchards will be available for purchase along with a variety of food and drinks. Celebrate Independence at Historic Bethabara Park

"Winston-Salem, NC - Celebrate the birth of the nation in the birthplace of Winston-Salem. On Sunday, June 27, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm, Historic Bethabara Park will Celebrate America's Independence with a day of music, food and entertainment.   This year's Celebration of Independence has been moved from its traditional Sunday afternoon timeslot to Saturday morning in an effort to make it more family friendly. Events for the day will include an appearance by one of the world's oldest stilt walkers, Uncle Sam on Stilts, a falconry demonstration, wagon rides, colonial trade demonstrations and more. The schedule for the Celebration is: 10:30-    Reading of Declaration of Independence 11:00-    Bethabara Concert Band Performance 12:00     Liberty Pole Admission to the event is  free but concessions, including two bit ($.25) ice cream cones,  will be available for purchase. Historic Bethabara Park is the home of one of the nation's first Independence Celebrations. On July 4, 1783, the town of Bethabara joined Bethania, and Salem to host the first documented independence celebrations in North Carolina, after the end of the War for Independence. Research indicates that these Moravian communities joined Boston, MA and Charleston, SC as possibly the first places in the new nation to hold a public day of thanksgiving signaling the end of the American Revolution. Bethabara Park Heads List of Family Friendly Fourth Activities

"Historic Bethabara Park will hold its annual Independence Day celebration Sunday, June 29, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. with a reading from the Declaration of Independence, Uncle Sam on stilts, hay wagon rides, children’s games and activities, colonial re-enactors,  a magician, blacksmith, spinning and weaving  demonstrations, and music by the Bethabara Concert Band (2 p.m.) and the 208th Army Reserve Band (4:30 p.m.). Local author John Hutton will read his children’s book “Sister Mauf,”  and local historian Randall Jones will tell the story of Col. Benjamin Forsyth. The celebration is sponsored by Passanante’s Home Food Services. All activities are free; concessions stands will be selling hotdogs, ice cream and popcorn.

All city pools will be open for their regular summer hours on Independence Day, as will city golf courses and Salem Lake. Pool admission will be $1 for children and adults on Independence Day and will remain in effect for the rest of the summer.
