HIGH POINT PUBLIC LIBRARY TO HOST BOOK FESTIVAL FOR LOCAL AUTHORS

"High Point, North Carolina, Sat., Nov. 7, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The High Point Public Library at 901 North Main Street, High Point, NC, will host a book festival for local authors.

Traditionally-published and self-published authors from High Point will be invited to showcase their work at the festival. The library will also accept published authors from other parts of Guilford County as space allows. Authors will have space to sell and showcase their work. In addition, the festival will host workshops by local published authors for the benefit of the general public and aspiring authors.

Jim and Joyce Lavene, bestselling mystery authors, will host a workshop entitled “Tall Tales: Myths and Lies About Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing” from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Lavenes live in rural North Carolina and are the authors of 11 mystery series published under 3 different pseudonyms, including the “Retired Witches” series and the “Renaissance Faire” series. The Lavenes have had tremendous success with traditional publishing through outlets such as Harlequin, Penguin, Amazon, and Simon & Schuster, but recently became “hybrid” authors by choosing to self-publish some of their books. The Lavenes will share the reasoning behind their decision as well as some of their publishing secrets.

Chris Roerden, a professional editor and author of the Agatha award-winning “Don’t Murder Your Mystery!” and the Macavity award-nominated “Don’t Sabotage Your Submission” will host a workshop on getting manuscripts past the editor’s desk. The workshop, “What Editors Look for When Accepting or Rejecting Manuscripts, and What Self-Publishers Want To Give Their Readers, Too!” from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Roerden, who lives in Greensboro, N.C., will focus on ways that aspiring authors can increase their chances of having their manuscript accepted.

KLEZMER TO PREFORM AT HIGH POINT PUBLIC LIBRARY

"HIGH POINT, NC (Friday August 28^st, 2015) The High Point Public Library at 901 North Main Street, High Point, NC, will host a concert from the Klezmetzuian Yovel Band. This event will take place on Wednesday, September 9^th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm on the 1^st floor of the High Point Public Library in the Story Room

Join us here at the High Point Public Library for an exciting evening of klezmer music by Klezmetzuian Yovel Band. Klezmetzuian Yovel Band is a musical group created in Bogota Columbia. They describe themselves as an innovative fusion German-Jewish-Colombian musical group. This event is free and open to the public. Klezmetzuian Yovel Band’s CD’s will be available for purchase after the event

Klezmetzuian Yovel Band is an musical group created in Bogota in 2009 with an Innovative proposal looking for fusion German Jewish music tradition and Colombian music itself, building a new fresh sound but without losing the festive intention typical of klezmer music, that taking power with Colombian rhythms and sounds. High Point Public Library to Host Free Health Fair

"HIGH POINT, NC (Wednesday May 20^th, 2015) On Tuesday, June 30, 10:00a.m - 2:00p.m  the High Point Public Library will host Health Fair in the lobby and in the Morgan Community Room on the first floor of the library.

Health professionals from Henry Dorn MD OBGYN & Associates, Brain Injury Association of NC, Mental Health Associates of the Triad, KinGap, and a number of other health services. Various screening will be providing blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, weight, and BMI. The event is free and open to the public, and the screenings are done on a first-come, first-served basis. No pre-registration is required.

HIGH POINT PUBLIC LIBRARY FALL BOOK SALE

"The Friends of the High Point Public Library, 901 N. Main Street, will have a used book sale on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from noon until 6 pm and on Sunday, September 14 from 1:30 to 4:00pm in the Morgan Room and adjacent area, on the main floor of the library.  A $3.00 bag sale will occur from 3:00-4:00 pm on Sunday. 

A preview sale, limited to members of the Friends of the Library will be held on Saturday morning, September 13, 2014 from 10:00 am until noon.  Non-members interested in supporting the library and participating in the presale can join the Friends of the Library that morning for as little as $10.00 a year.

Dance Week at the High Point Public Library

A week of family friendly dance related programs is scheduled August 4^th through August 9^th at the High Point Public Library (901 North Main Street, High Point). The second annual summer Dance Week at the Library is supported and sponsored by Friends of High Point Public Library. The programs are intended for children but adults are welcome to attend.

Monday August 4^th – Suah African Dance Theater will open Dance Week at the Library with their high energy drumming and dancing. Suah will perform at 11:00 am at Oakview Recreation Center (503 James Road, High Point) and again at the High Point Public Library at 6:30.

Tuesday August 5^th we will feature Native American dancers from the Lumbee tribe. The program will be held in the High Point Public Library storyroom at 6:30.

Wednesday August 6^th – we are showing the movie An American Girl: Isabella Dances into the Spotlight. The movie will begin at 2:00 in the library storyroom.

Thursday August 7^th – We are very excited to bring the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble to High Point (http://www.ncyte.org/) . The performers will be putting on a full dance program at the Oakview Recreation Center at 11:00. They will also do a tap demonstration in the library storyroom at 4:00.

Friday August 8^th – A dance related craft program will be held in the library storyroom at 3:00. This program is for school age children.

Saturday August 9^th – We are featuring the movie The Game Plan in the storyroom at 2:00.
