3. Promoting private investment, strengthening Greensboro regional and global competitiveness, developing Small and Medium-Scale Enterprise as the catalyst of growth. (20)
4. Yes, I support economic incentives. This is an overly broad question to answer in 75 words. Economic incentives provide flexibility, encouragement of technological innovation, improved relationships between public and private sector, substantial cost savings, etc. The two main factors to consider is the track-record of the effectiveness of any particular incentive and the appropriate of the checks and balances that ensure compliance (63)
5. Build a strong, more educated local labor force, build and maintain regional partnerships to allocate and leverage regional economic development resources to sustain and enhance the economic growth, vitality, and global competitiveness of Greensboro, support initiatives to help small business and MWBEs, who are largely the employers that located to depressed and underserved communities, provide equitable financial or tax incentives for businesses that locate to or hire employees, especially within depressed local communities. Remove some of the bureaucratic barriers to small business growth, making it easier for small businesses to do business in Greensboro. (1) reduce taxes and user fees, getting rid of old ordinance. More aggressively promote Greensboro technology resources that exist through local colleges. (117)
6. I support living wages initiatives. However, we have to be cautious that raising wages considerably over a short span does not negatively impact small business growth. Small businesses are they engine of Greensboro’s economic growth and innovative spirit. Small business provides jobs to non-traditional workers (i.e.: teens and job-seekers over the age of 40). These individuals significantly impact consumer spending in our local economy. (66)
7. I support well-planned reasonably dense fringe development. It is difficult for me to comprehend from a development and economic standpoint how Greensboro can afford not to consider this option faced with burgeoning population growth and stiffening economical challenges. (39)
