Tobacco A Go Go

They played great rock and roll in North Carolina long before Superchunk, even Arrogance: Winston-Salem's Teenbeets, Statesville's 18th Edition, the Five Royales and, of course, Doug Clark & the Hot Nuts. Kudos to Michael Slawter of Winston-Salem for keeping some of the music alive with his NC Music History blog.

A recent post releases Tobacco A Go Go Vol. 3: 1966-1968 on MP3. Michael says there's no vinyl or CD format. I love the cover, a spoof on Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow, with Ava Gardner standing in for Grace Slick, alongside a host of other North Carolina notables, including Michael Jordan and Clay Aiken.

Hi! I released TOBACCO A-GO-GO Volumes I and II in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Vinyl only. Twenty-three years later, I produce this newest effort. Lots of cool tunes. Mike Slawter was a big help sonically and in the unearthing of the never-before comp'ed tunes by the 18th Edition. All available at ncmusichistory.com.
