The Guilford County Unity Effort will be hosting a forum for candidates for mayor, District 1, District 3 and District 4 in Greensboro at 6 p.m. tonight at the Greensboro Historical Museum. As noted here, we expect to have near perfect participation, although some incumbents indicated they may not show up.
Organizer Sharon Hightower tells me that District 3 incumbent Zack Matheny has said he is under the weather and may not be able to attend. Also, District 4 incumbent Mary Rakestraw called a couple minutes ago and said she has a scheduling conflict because of a 7 p.m. meeting with the Greensboro Landlords Association, but will try to make it to the last part of the Guilford Unity forum. District 5 incumbent Trudy Wade, whose forum is scheduled for Sept. 22, has previously indicated she will not attend.
UPDATE: For clarification's sake, I should mention that although Mary Rakestraw currently holds an at-large seat on city council, she is not an incumbent in District 4.
POSTSCRIPT: Zack Matheny and Mary Rakestraw did not attend the candidates forum.
George Hartzman and Jay Ovittore answered questions in the District 3 segment. Joseph Rahenkamp, Mike Martin and Joel Landau took questions for the District 4 race.
All six candidates for District 1 participated: Dianne Bellamy-Small, Charles Dayton Coffey, Luther T. Falls Jr., Ben Holder, Jeramy Reid and Daron Sellars. Mayoral candidates Yvonne Johnson and Bill Knight answered questions in the final segment.
I'll be posting transcripts of each candidate's answers at Triad Elections '09 as I work my way through them.
