LabCorp might announce Greensboro facility

John Shoffner, Greensboro's economic development manager, said today that Burlington-based LabCorp is in the midst of a decision about whether to locate a facility in Greensboro that would employ 425 people.

Gov. Beverly Perdue focused her speech to the Greensboro Partnership tonight at the Koury Convention Center on job creation, promising to have an announcement soon.

"I will make any call, and I've made some for Greensboro and the Triad," she said. "You know that. I will do anything you need me to do. Nothing's too big, nothing's too small. Pick up the phone and call. It makes a difference."

After the speech, in a quick huddle with reporters, she declined to confirm that LabCorp was on the verge of announcing plans to set up shop in Greensboro, but did nothing to discourage the notion.

"I can't say what the process is because it's still in play," she said, "but I will say that I believe in LabCorp and I will do anything to that I can do that's legal and possible as governor of this state to keep them in North Carolina."
