North Carolina original melodic rock band, Dreamkiller, is being considered for “Rock Album of The Year” for the 21st Annual Los Angeles Music Awards. Lead singer, Christy Johnson was honored as “National Vocal Performer of The Year” for the 2010 Los Angeles Music Awards and performed live at the Paramount Theatre on the lot at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, CA on November 18, 2010. Additionally, she was nominated in the category for Female Vocalist of The Year and presented the “Unsung Hero Award” at the show.
Christy was awarded as the 2009 Rock Artist of The Year: Female for the Carolina Music Awards and Queen City Music Awards. Additionally, Dreamkiller won Rock Band of The Year for the 2009 Carolina Music Awards.
Dreamkiller is holding a benefit show to raise the sponsorship money themselves this year. Somewhere Else Tavern (5713 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410) has graciously offered to host the event on June 3, 2011. Dreamkiller is seeking additional triad bands to perform as well as businesses that would like to contribute services, products, or gift certificates to be included in a raffle.
The Los Angeles Music Awards have built a tradition and heritage in Hollywood as the legitimate community event that recognizes and honors great talent before they establish themselves in the commercial marketplace.
Past success stories are many and include Grace Potter, 1999 nominee, Alien Ant Farm, 1999 recipient, Black Eyed Peas, 1999 & 2000 nominee, Korn, 1993 nominee, No Doubt, 1992 nominee, Dream Theater, 1991 nominee, Sugar Ray, 1994 nominee, Lit, (then know as Razzle), 1991 nominee, plus dozens of others who have gone onto success in other ways. Carmel Helene, who was a nominee in 2005, currently is one of two touring back up singers for Miley Cyrus. 2006 recipient Yogi is currently touring with Chris Cornell as his guitarist. The 21st Annual Los Angeles Music Awards will be a global event, open to artists from all genres of music from every continent.
