Opponents are expected to fill Greensboro City Council chambers this evening in anticipation of a vote to select a company to privately operate the White Street Landfill. Those who support reopening the landfill are also being encouraged to attend the meeting.
Although there is little doubt about the course set through this process, this may not be the last stop. Robbie Perkins tells me he received a phone call from Danny Thompson — both Perkins and Thompson serve at large — notifying him that the four council members who comprise a majority on this issue plan to vote to eliminate Advanced Disposal from consideration, and then ask the other two vendors, Gate City Waste Services and Waste Industries, to address the council in a briefing session next week.
Soon after, a final selection could be expected.
