Joe Smith was promoted to Greensboro deputy police chief at a ceremony Monday morning. He will be filling a vacancy after two retirements last month and will oversee the resource management bureau. Lieutenants Joel Cranford and Renae Sigmon were also promoted to the rank of captain. Here is more information on Smith, provided by the police department:
"Smith joined the department in 1986 as a member of the 60th Police Basic Introductory Course. His assignments include: patrol officer, a member of the Police Neighborhood Resource Center, vice/narcotics, Executive Officer of Resource Management, Watch Commander, and Executive Officer of Central Division. Smith was promoted to captain in February 2010 and has served as the Commander of the Professional Standards Division since then."
