Music, Lyrics, and Book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey
"Grease is the word! School’s out for the summer, and the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance is celebrating by producing that perennial musical favorite, Grease, featuring Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys” and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby socks and pedal pushers. The look and sound of the 1950s are back in this rollicking musical.
Head “greaser” Danny Zuko (played by Trey Cameron) and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski (Brynn Lewallen) try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’”, “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee”, and “Beauty School Dropout” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals.
Grease is such a well-known favorite that WSTA is designating Friday, June 27th’s performance as an audience sing-along show! Whether you’ve visited Rydell High many times over the years or you’ve never been inside its hallowed halls, Grease is PG-rated family fun for all. Come see why it’s a classic – with that signature Theatre Alliance twist.
"A lively and funny musical-as well as the dancing-est one in town. It’s a winner…the songs are dandies [that portray] the early rockers with zip and charm. The sheer energy of Grease carries all before it.” —New York Daily News
The Theatre Alliance production is directed by Jamie Lawson and musically directed by Jackson Cooper. The cast features Brynn Lewallen as Sandy, Trey Cameron as Danny, Suzanne Vaughan as Rizzo, Zach Pfrimmer as Kenickie, Carlton Marshall as Teen Angel, and Becki West as Miss Lynch.
