Arrests made as Police use pepper spray to contain fighting within 300+ gathering in downtown Winston-Salem

"On Friday evening at approximately 8pm, a large number of juveniles began to gather in the downtown area of Winston Salem, specifically in the areas of Fourth Street, Marshall Street and Cherry Street.  The large crowd of juveniles migrated to and from Winston Square Park (310 N. Marshall Street) where at approximately 8:15pm, reports of subjects fighting in the area were reported. Officers used pepper spray to stop the fighting which also dispersed the crowd.  

Downtown Bike Patrol units responded to Winston-Square Park as well as additional units to assist with crowd control. Groups of juveniles began running through the crowded downtown area and mainly gathered at Winston Square Park where officers were able to gain control of the crowd.  The crowd consisted of approximately 300 juveniles.  The above listed subjects were taken into custody and charged as listed. In addition 4 Juveniles were taken into custody and later released to parents/guardians.  The incident resulted in traffic congestion in the downtown area. 

Officers remained in the downtown area for approximately 2 hours until the park was closed down and the juvenile crowds had left from the downtown area.   No injuries were reported during this incident.

It will be interesting to see Winston-Salem's response in view of the fiasco performance and misinformation campaign put on by the Greensboro City Council almost a year ago.

By the way, News 2 is still reporting just this week that hundreds were fighting in downtown Greensboro last Summer. Fox8 reported eleven same day.
