RIVERRUN ANNOUNCES 2016 DATES & NEW ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER

"WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 12, 2015) – The RiverRun International Film Festival announces its 2016 dates, as well as two new members of the Festival’s Creative Advisory Board.
                  
The 18th Annual RiverRun International Film Festival will be held April 7-17, 2016. Specific venues and events within the Festival will be determined in the coming months. Additionally, Karin Chien is a newcomer to RiverRun’s Creative Advisory Board who served as 2015 juror for RiverRun for narrative films in competition.

“I am excited to welcome Karin to our Creative Advisory Board,” said Andrew Rodgers, RiverRun’s Executive Director. “She will bring new insight, experience and talent to our organization and we are honored that she is so willing to donate her energy and ideas to help enrich the Festival.”
                                                                                                
Karin Chien is an independent film producer and distributor committed to uncompromising visions that challenge traditional paradigms. Karin is a four-time Independent Spirit Award nominee, the recipient of the Independent Spirit Producer’s Award, and the producer of ten independent feature films, including Stones in the Sun (2012), Jack and Diane (2012), Circumstance (2011), The Exploding Girl (2009), The Motel (2005) and Robot Stories (2002). Her films have won more than 100 festival awards, been nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards, premiered at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, and received distribution in more than 30 countries. Karin is the founder/president of dGenerate Films, the leading distributor of independent cinema from mainland China, and the creator/director of the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) Fellowship, a mentoring program for emerging Asian American media professionals.

Karin will join a prestigious group of 16 other industry professionals and experts who have agreed to assist RiverRun throughout the year in an advisory capacity. The other current members of RiverRun’s Creative Advisory Board include: Ramin Bahrani, Linda Beck, Verna Bloom, Jay Cocks, Patrick Creadon, Ava DuVernay, David Gordon Green, Barry Jenkins, Michael Koresky, Angus MacLachlan, Richie Mehta, Will Patton, Bill Pullman, Jeff Reichert, Paul Schneider and Farihah Zaman.
