Self-Help’s Choice Community Credit Union Adopting Self-Help Credit Union Name

Greensboro, N.C. – Choice Community Credit Union, which merged with Self-Help Credit Union in 2010, announced today that it is officially adopting Self-Help Credit Union’s name and logo as of Oct. 1, 2015.
Self-Help Credit Union’s Greensboro branch has continued operating as Choice since the merger in order to maintain continuity for members. With Self-Help’s growth to 18 North Carolina branches, uniting them all under the Self-Help name made good business sense and better serves credit union members.
“We will always value and treasure Choice’s history and look forward to further expanding our impact under the Self-Help name,” said Ron Wiley, Self-Help Credit Union’s Greensboro Branch Manager. “For our members, this will make clear that they can access Self-Help’s growing statewide network. What will not change is our commitment to serve all our members and the Greensboro community.”
The Battleground Avenue branch serves 9,000 Self-Help Credit Union members. Self-Help offers a full range of financial products and services including home loans and small business loans and consumer loans.
Self-Help’s longstanding Greensboro presence includes the redevelopment of the Self-Help Center downtown and financing home and commercial loans totaling $90 million in Guilford County. These loans have created or maintained an estimated 2,700 jobs and 72% of the loans have been to minorities, and 66% to low-income families.
In Northeast Greensboro, Self-Help is currently redeveloping Renaissance Shops at Phillips Avenue, a 45,000 square foot neighborhood shopping center that once included a supermarket, pharmacy and a public library. Once completed, Renaissance Shops is expected to house the Renaissance Community Co-op, Friendly Pharmacy, a health clinic and other businesses and community spaces.
Self-Help is also redeveloping Greensboro’s historic Revolution Mill. One of the city’s most significant landmarks, Revolution Mill is being fully built out as a 570,000 square foot mixed-use development. In addition to expanding the current first-class office space, the redevelopment includes building approximately 140 one and two bedroom apartments, and a 40,000 square foot creative campus designed specifically for entrepreneurs, working artists, and smaller creative companies.
