Arrest Made in Beck Street Homicide

"GREENSBORO, NC (Dec. 11, 2015) –  Detectives from the Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and Street Crimes Unit arrested Jhustyn Kelvin Mitchell early this morning after investigation and Crime Stoppers tips alerted police that he may have been a suspect in the fatal shooting of Jay Jay Tremaine Allen on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

In a previous news release, Allen’s name was referenced as Jay Lavorse Allen, as reflected on various official documents. His family has since provided documents confirming his legal name as Jay Jay Termaine Allen.

Detectives took Mitchell, 27, 3827 Overland Heights, into custody without incident shortly after midnight for five orders for arrest for failing to appear in court for previous offenses, and two outstanding warrants for arrest for Assault on a Female and Communicating Threats. The warrants were unrelated to the homicide.

Mitchell, a validated gang member, is charged with First Degree Murder for Allen’s death. The shooting was gang-related.

Officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Beck St. at approximately 1:30 pm on Dec. 9 after witnesses called GM 911 to report hearing gun fire. Allen, 30, of 1905 Finley St., was found fatally shot in a vehicle that had rolled down a nearby embankment.

The other shooting victim, Keith Delfonne Womack, 34, remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Womack’s involvement in the incident remains unclear at this point.

Mitchell is confined in the Greensboro Jail Central under no bond."
