"On June 15 at 5:59pm, Officers with the
Winston-Salem Police Department responded to an assault in the 300 Block of
Whitford Place Ct. Upon arrival,
officers located Mr. Tyrone Smith, 58, laying on the ground, suffering from gunshot
wounds. Smith, a black male, resides at 200 N. Graham Ave., Winston-Salem.
Evidence gathered during the
investigation indicated that the victim had been involved in an altercation
with Mr. Johnny Patrick, 69, moments earlier, in the same vicinity. The investigation
revealed that Mr. Johnny Patrick shot Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith was transported to
the hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. It should be noted that both Mr. Patrick and
Mr. Smith were acquainted with one another, as they were roommates. Patrick was taken
into custody at the scene/no resistance/firearm recovered at scene. He was charged with Murder and no bond was allowed.
The
Winston-Salem Police Department is asking anyone with information concerning
this crime to call (336) 773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800. Because this incident remains under
investigation no additional information will be released at this time.
This is the 12th
homicide to occur in 2016, as compared to 5 homicides for the same period of
time in 2015."
