And the winner is...

A financial comparison of six options for disposing of Greensboro's solid waste by consulting company HDR finds that the city would save the most money by with Advanced Disposal's proposal to reopen the White Street Landfill ($5.6 million per year). The three options proposed by Republic Services to continue to transport the city's trash down to Montgomery County and a proposal by Carolina Energy Development to operate a waste-to-energy facility all rank near the bottom in terms of cost savings. The proposals by the three companies that would reopen the landfill — again, no surprise — offer the greatest cost savings.
